Metro is testing our on-board fare payment equipment in preparation for our forthcoming implementation of Tap to Ride. Effective immediately, most or all on-board fare payment readers will interact with customers’ tap-enabled credit cards, and may inadvertently charge fares. To continue paying with DiriGo Pass, be sure to remove your DiriGo Pass smartcard from your wallet before tapping.  Users of the Umo Mobility app can continue using the system normally.

Tap to Ride is not yet live, but we are hoping to launch in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please avoid tapping credit cards near the fare payment terminal. We cannot ensure that unexpected issues will not occur during this testing phase.

Additionally, all DiriGo Pass users will now be able to pay for multiple people on a single DiriGo account. This behavior, called “companion fares”, allows for a single DiriGo user to pay for a group of people without the need for individual DiriGo accounts. Importantly, any discounted fare or fare capping benefits will only apply to the first tap only. All subsequent taps will be charged the full fare amount for the route you are boarding. Users should be sure not to accidentally “double tap” when paying their fare.

If any issues arise as part of these updates, please reach out to Customer Service at 207-774-0351.

We thank you for your patience as we work on these exciting upgrades.

The Metro BREEZ bus stop/shelter at Yarmouth Town Hall will not be in service July 8-July 22, 2026.

All riders should use the temporary bus stop along US Route 1, near Walgreens and walk to Town Hall using the Beth Condon Pathway.

The Greater Portland Transit District (Metro) Board of Directors voted at their June 25, 2026 board meeting to increase bus fares and make other changes to fare policy effective August 1, 2026. The Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach Transit (BSOOB Transit) Transit Committee voted to approve the changes on May 19, 2026.

The base fare will increase from $2.00 to $2.25, with similar changes across most fare categories. The full list of changes is outlined at gpmetro.org/fare-policy-update/.

LEARN MORE

As part of our preparation to launch Tap-to-Ride this summer, a technology update will be applied on July 6, 2026 at approximately 11:00am. After this time, all DiriGo Pass users who use the Umo app or web portal to add value to their DiriGo Pass accounts will need to re-enter their credit card information. Users will not be able to add value to their accounts until this information is reentered. This includes users who have set up their account to automatically reload value.

Additionally, users should begin to exercise more care when tapping their DiriGo Card to the fare reader beginning in July. Holding several cards near the reader may result in an unintentional charge to your credit card. If you experience any issues during this transition, please reach out to customer service by calling 207-774-0351 for assistance.

This is expected to be a one-time disruption. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Concerts are held at Thompson’s Point during the summer through October, 2026.
For riders taking Metro bus  service to Thompson’s Point for concerts, please note the following:

  • Metro Routes 1 and BREEZ provide direct service to Thompson’s Point and the Portland Transportation Center (PTC). The bus stop at the PTC is a short walk from the concert venue.
  • Riders can also take Metro route  5, 7, or  9A/9B to the bus stop on Congress Street and walk down Sewall to Thompson’s Point.
  • On concert days, Metro will stop servicing the stop at Thompson’s Point after 3pm.
  • Metro will use the bus stop at the Portland Transportation Center (PTC) for Routes 1 and BREEZ unless the service is delayed due to heavy traffic from the concert.
  • If the bus cannot access the stop at the PTC, riders should use the temporary stop along Fore River Parkway.
