All Metro routes will be free to ride on June 20.

The parade kicks off at 11:30 am on Congress Street in Downtown Portland. Congress Street will be closed to vehicle traffic during the parade and Metro routes will be detoured from app. 10 am to noon.

We recommend arriving in Portland before 10 am while buses are still operating regular routes.

These are the likely detours of Metro routes when streets are closed:

  • Routes 1, 7, 9, and BREEZ detour to Spring Street. (Approximate impacts 10am-1pm.)
  • Route 2 and 4 detour to avoid Congress Street west of Elm Street. (App impact 10am-1pm)
  • Route 5 detours up through Oakdale to avoid Park Ave in front of Deering Oaks Park. Approximate impact 12pm-6pm.
  • Route 8 detours similar to Route 1,7,9 to Spring Street, with additional detours:
departing Hannaford, turns right onto Baxter Boulevard, left onto Preble Street Extension, straight through to Falmouth Street at Forest Ave, left at the roundabout. Temporary stop at the Deering’s Corner Roundabout southbound stop, south on Deering Ave; temporary stop at King Middle School. Straight up Deering Ave, left on Cumberland, right on State, right on Congress.
  • Husky Line detours to use Cumberland Avenue instead of Preble Street to avoid the busiest section of Congress. Approximate impacts 10am-1pm.
  • Route 21 and 24A use Spring Street to avoid Congress Street. Approximate impacts 10am-1pm.

Please ask the bus operator if you have questions about service.

Metro BREEZ, the express bus route between Portland, Yarmouth, Freeport, and Brunswick, has been operating for ten years.

To celebrate this milestone, Greater Portland Metro will offer FREE rides on all Metro BREEZ trips on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Route 5 and Route 7:
Minor schedule adjustments to improve service.

Route 8:
Route 8 will turn onto Commercial Street, instead of Middle Street.
The Casco Bay Lines bus stop moves from the pier to Commercial Street.

Concerts are held at Thompson’s Point during the summer through October, 2026.
For riders taking Metro bus  service to Thompson’s Point for concerts, please note the following:

  • Metro Routes 1 and BREEZ provide direct service to Thompson’s Point and the Portland Transportation Center (PTC). The bus stop at the PTC is a short walk from the concert venue.
  • Riders can also take Metro route  5, 7, or  9A/9B to the bus stop on Congress Street and walk down Sewall to Thompson’s Point.
  • On concert days, Metro will stop servicing the stop at Thompson’s Point after 3pm.
  • Metro will use the bus stop at the Portland Transportation Center (PTC) for Routes 1 and BREEZ unless the service is delayed due to heavy traffic from the concert.
  • If the bus cannot access the stop at the PTC, riders should use the temporary stop along Fore River Parkway.
