Through Federal grants and community support, the METRO BREEZ route was launched as a three-year pilot project in 2016.
Brunswick joined the project in 2017, year two of the pilot.

In 2019, the communities along the BREEZ route -- Yarmouth, Freeport, and Brunswick -- vote on the future of the service.

On Thursday, August 15, the Yarmouth Town Council unanimously voted to permanently fund its share of the BREEZ and formally join Greater Portland Transit District METRO.
