Looking ahead at 2022: Service Improvements, Fleet Upgrades, and more!
Route #7 - Service enhancements, launch of micro transit pilot program
Proposal (pending funding support)
Greater Portland METRO is proposing the following changes to Route 7 service:
- Replace Falmouth OceanView and Town Market 'loop service' with Microtransit Pilot*
- Increase frequency to 30 minute service
- Extend hours of service
- Extend service to Thompson's Point
*Microtransit Pilot
- The two 'loops' in Falmouth that serve Town Market and Oceanview would be replaced with on demand service.
- This on-demand service would promote service in these areas and provide more service along Route
- Currently these routes have infrequent service and often cause route delays
- The pilot would operate for 9-12 months after which METRO would decide to continue the service, restore the service, or consider other options.
- How would it work?
METRO passengers in Falmouth, who live along the route that currently provides service to the areas around Town Market or OceanView would use use a mobile app or call METRO to schedule a ride (similar to ride share services) to the bus stop at Shaw's or Wal-Mark to transfer to Route 7 service, which would operate every 30 minutes.
