Mr. Fenton has held a leadership role at Metro since 2014, previously serving as Metro’s Chief Transportation Officer and, since March, as Interim Executive Director.
Mr. Fenton has over 25 years of experience in public transit. Prior to joining Metro, he worked as the Stamford Division Manager for CT Transit in Stamford, Connecticut and the Senior Transit Operations Coordinator for the City of Tempe, Arizona. In the five years following Mr. Fenton’s arrival at Metro, ridership increased over 34%, peaking at over 2.1 million trips in 2019.
Mr. Fenton’s appointment was approved unanimously by Metro’s Board of Directors at a Monday, July 15 board meeting.
“Glenn has been an invaluable member of the leadership team of transit professionals at Metro responsible for the amazing growth in both ridership and communities served”, said Ed Suslovic, President of Metro’s Board of Directors. “I am confident that the momentum at Metro will continue under Glenn’s leadership. Metro is on the move!”
Mr. Fenton is committed to continuing to enhance transit in Greater Portland. A Portland resident, he and his family regularly ride Metro. Glenn will assume the Executive Director role immediately.
“I’m thrilled to take on the role of Metro’s Executive Director in a permanent capacity”, said Glenn Fenton. “I’m especially excited to lead such an amazing team of employees, as we work together to continue to advance public transit in the Greater Portland Region.”
